How Much Does SEO Cost in Mumbai? (Honest 2026 Pricing Guide)
How much does SEO cost in Mumbai in 2026? Real price bands, what ₹8,000 vs ₹40,000 a month actually buys, and the pricing models to be wary of.
Nobody publishes SEO prices in Mumbai. Ask five agencies and you’ll get five “depends on your requirements” replies and a request for a meeting. That’s not entirely dishonest — it genuinely does depend — but it’s also convenient, because it means you can’t compare anyone until you’ve already spent an hour on a call.
So here are the actual numbers.
The short answer
SEO in Mumbai costs between ₹8,000 and ₹1,50,000 per month in 2026. Most small and mid-sized businesses land between ₹8,000 and ₹40,000. Below ₹8,000 you are almost always buying something automated. Above ₹75,000 you are usually buying a team rather than a service.
Our own Local SEO starts at a flat ₹8,000/month — the same figure we quote in Kochi or Delhi, because we don’t price by postcode.
What each band actually buys
| Monthly budget | What it realistically covers | Right for |
|---|---|---|
| Under ₹5,000 | Automated reports, bulk directory submissions, spun content. Frequently harmful. | Nobody |
| ₹8,000 – ₹15,000 | Google Business Profile optimisation, local citations, on-page work on an existing site, a review system, monthly reporting | A single-location local business competing in its own suburb |
| ₹15,000 – ₹30,000 | The above plus real content production, technical fixes, early link building, competitor tracking | A business competing across several Mumbai areas, or with an e-commerce catalogue |
| ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 | Multi-location or multi-service targeting, serious content velocity, digital PR, AEO/GEO work, conversion tracking | Established businesses in competitive categories — clinics, coaching, real estate, D2C |
| ₹60,000 – ₹1,50,000+ | A dedicated team: strategist, writers, technical SEO, outreach | Funded startups, national brands, large e-commerce |
The seven things that actually move the price
Vague pricing usually hides these. They are the real variables.
1. Your competition, not your ambition. Ranking a Mira Road tuition centre is not the same job as ranking a Bandra cosmetic clinic. The clinic’s competitors have been accumulating authority for six years. Same “local SEO” label, roughly three times the work.
2. How many locations you serve. One shop in Malad is one problem. Four branches across the Western suburbs is four sets of profiles, four catchments and four content requirements.
3. The state of your existing site. A fast, well-built site needs optimisation. A slow WordPress build on shared hosting with six plugins doing the same job needs repair first — often a one-off ₹15,000–₹50,000 before a monthly retainer makes any sense.
4. Whether you need content produced. Content is the single largest cost line in most retainers. If you write it and we edit, the monthly figure drops meaningfully.
5. Local versus organic versus AI search. Google Business Profile work is cheaper and faster. Competitive organic rankings cost more and take longer. AEO and GEO are a third workstream again.
6. E-commerce scale. A 50-product store and a 5,000-SKU catalogue are different technical problems entirely.
7. Whether links are part of the plan. Genuine digital PR and earned links are expensive because they are labour. Cheap links are cheap because they are bought — and those are the ones that eventually cost you the site.
What ₹8,000 a month actually gets you
Being specific, because “local SEO package” means nothing on its own:
- Google Business Profile claimed, correctly categorised, service area set, photos, hours and Q&A completed
- Local citation building with consistent NAP across the directories that actually matter in India
- On-page optimisation of your existing pages — titles, descriptions, headings, internal links, local schema
- A review generation system, and replies to the reviews that come in
- Monthly reporting on calls, direction requests and Maps impressions, in plain language
What it does not get you: new content every month, a link building campaign, a website rebuild, or competitive city-wide organic rankings. Anyone promising all of that at ₹8,000 is either not doing it or automating it.
Pricing models, and which to be careful with
Monthly retainer — the standard, and the most honest structure for ongoing work. Just insist on knowing exactly what’s included.
Project-based — sensible for one-off technical work, a migration or an audit. Not sensible as your only SEO.
Pay for performance — sounds risk-free and usually isn’t. Rankings are the easiest metric to game: an agency can hit “page 1 for 20 keywords” using twenty keywords nobody searches. If you do use this model, agree the keyword list and the measurement method in writing first.
Hourly — fine for consulting, impractical for delivery.
SEO versus Google Ads, in money terms
Most Mumbai businesses are really choosing between these two, so it’s worth being concrete.
At ₹20,000/month on Google Ads in a competitive Mumbai category, you are often paying ₹40–₹150 per click. Leads start on day one and stop the day you stop paying.
The same ₹20,000 on SEO produces nothing in month one, something in month three, and — if it works — leads that continue without a per-click cost. The honest framing: ads buy demand today, SEO buys a lower cost per lead in eighteen months. Most businesses that can afford it should run both, using ads while the SEO matures. Six red flags in an SEO quote
- A guaranteed #1 ranking. Nobody controls Google’s results. This is the clearest single signal to walk away.
- A price with no scope. “₹25,000/month for SEO” is not a proposal.
- Keyword counts as the deliverable. “We’ll rank you for 50 keywords” — which fifty, and do they have search volume?
- A 12-month lock-in with no exit. If the work is good, you’ll stay voluntarily.
- Suspiciously cheap links. “500 backlinks for ₹5,000” is buying a future problem.
- No named person doing the work. Ask who specifically. If the answer is a department, you’re getting a template.
Budget you should set aside beyond the retainer
Rarely mentioned, routinely encountered:
- Website fixes or rebuild — ₹15,000 to ₹2,00,000+, one-off, only if genuinely needed
- Content, if not included — ₹1,500 to ₹8,000 per article depending on depth and research
- Tools — usually the agency’s cost, but ask
- Google Ads, if you run them alongside — separate budget entirely
What we charge, plainly
Local SEO from ₹8,000/month. Growth and full-funnel plans, including dedicated AEO and GEO work, are quoted after a free audit — because a number picked before we’ve seen your competition would be a guess, and we’d rather not dress a guess up as a package tier.
Month-to-month. No lock-in. If it isn’t working, you leave.
We’ll also tell you when we’re not the right choice. If you need map-pack visibility in one suburb and nothing else, a good local freelancer may serve you better and cheaper — and we’d rather say that than take work we’re not the best fit for.
Frequently asked
Is SEO worth it for a small Mumbai business? Usually yes, if you have local competition and a working website. The threshold question isn’t your budget, it’s whether people search for what you sell. If they do and you’re invisible, the return on ₹8,000 a month generally beats the equivalent ad spend within a year. For a worked example of what that budget buys in a softer suburb, and the arithmetic for deciding whether it pays back, see our breakdown of affordable SEO packages in Borivali.
How long before I see results? Local Maps visibility often moves in 4–8 weeks in softer suburbs like Borivali, Kandivali or Mira Road. Competitive organic terms typically take 3–6 months. A shorter timeline promised in a competitive Mumbai category is a guess or a sales line.
Should I pay for a website rebuild first? Only if the current site is genuinely holding you back — slow, unindexable, or broken on mobile. Otherwise put the first money into the profile and content. We’ll tell you which applies after the audit.
Why is your ₹8,000 the same in Mumbai and Kochi? Because the work is the same work. What differs is how much of it a competitive market needs — and that shows up in the growth plans, not the entry price.
Does AI search optimisation cost extra? The entity and structured-data foundations that help AI search are in every plan, because they’re the same foundations good SEO needs. Dedicated AEO and GEO campaigns — original research, citation building, systematic tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews — are quoted separately.
